Whilst 1/3 of the BC team is eating and drinking her way around Japan, 1/3 decided to shake off the post-assessment blues and head to Byron Bay for a romantic getaway with 3 girlfriends.

Not much was on the agenda for the next 48hrs except eating, wining, sleeping, eating, swimming, eating, beering, swimming, eating.

After arriving in Byron about 6pm we showered and headed to destination #1 of the evening. A new fancy bar/restaurant thing called ‘St Elmo’.

We celebrated our mini getaway with a bottle of bubbles and a share plate special that was goats cheese baked in honey and served with ciabatta. yum. i meant to get a photo but the bubbles and the cheese disappeared before the thought of a photo crossed my mind. St Elmo is a pretty snazzy set up in the way that it matches all the fancy boutiques that have popped up in Byron the past 5 years. But they still kept the natural, relaxed vibe of the town. The waitstaff were dress in their own clothes and wore aprons made from vintage fabrics.. very sweet. And two very enthusiastic thumbs up for the handsome bar staff. I could have happily sat and watched all night!

For dinner, we revisited my favourite restaurant, Chameleon. A friend and I discovered it about this time last year and I have never forgotten my dining experience. Live flamenco band, food orgasm and jugs of sangria!

I ate the mussel linguine and my friend had my favourite, the seafood pasta which comes with a bowl full of mussels, squid, fish, scallops, prawns- everything you want in your pasta and more. We shared some dips, and a greek salad and the other 2 ladies shared a pizza with roasted figs and hazelnuts which was absolutely amazing!Sorry for the lack of pics of main, champagne and sangria on an empty stomach meant getting food into my mouth was priority number one! For dessert we shared the Chameleon waffles with toasted hazelnuts and burnt caramel sauce. yum!

Breakfast the next day was at ‘Bay Leaf Cafe’ which was a lovely street side setting and topped off by super friendly staff.

After the breakfast box had been ticked we rolled ourselves down to the sea side for a paddle in the crisp spring ocean.

Then it was back in the car and back to Brisbane with us full up on food, sun, beer and great company. Perfect.
