Having a sweet tooth is not one thing that we are known for, however when the craving comes aknocking there’s no point only eating an apple to try and satisfy the need for sugar when there’s goats cheese cake, molten chocolate cake and brioche doughtnuts on offer.

Cathcart & Ready, formly Dessert Truck started as just that – a truck that parked on various streets around Greenwich village selling creme bruile from the window. Aided by a Kickstarter campaign, they were able to find the truck a perminant place to park its wheels and expand into a full cafe.

Cathcart & Ready is the project of Jerome Chang (formerly the pastry sous chef at Le Cirque), and Columbia business school student, Chris Chen. The aim of the venture is to create homemade desserts that won’t break the bank and without the fuss of a high dining experience.

As well as providing tasty treats, Cathcart & Ready also hold workshops specialising in making macroons and sufflees as well as cookies, cakes and buscuits.

Taking advantage of our party being 5 people strong, we opted to share 3 desserts. After much salivating, deliberating and flavour fantasizing we decided on:

1. Goats Cheese Cheese-Cake with rosemary caramel and fresh berries

2. Warm Molten Chocolate Cake with olive oil ganache center, hazelnuts and vanilla icecream

3. Broiche donut squares (AKA DA BOMB)

If there was no one else in the cafe, we probably would have licked our plates clean! The favourite dessert for the evening was the Goats-cheese Cheese cake. Two very enthusiastic thumbs up – a dessert that I wake up dreaming about…
